Scope and weekly window
ThetaScope analyzes public submissions and comments in r/thetagang. By default, each report covers a deterministic half-open Monday 00:00 UTC to Monday 00:00 UTC window; the boundary timezone, weekday, and cutoff are configurable. Submissions and comments are included by their own timestamps, so a new comment in an older thread can count.
Ticker mentions
Candidates are validated against a versioned US-listed stock and ETF security master. Cashtags and option-contract syntax are strongest. Ambiguous words and options abbreviations are rejected. Repeating a ticker inside one text object counts once.
Options-selling activity
A qualifying signal needs a valid direct ticker or an unambiguous high-confidence contextual ticker plus clause-level short-premium evidence. Long options, quoted trades, bots, negation, third-party claims, and questions are not treated as the author’s executed trade.
Independent signals
The canonical unit is one author + Reddit thread + ticker. Additional comments may add trade details or evidence, but cannot inflate the independent signal count inside the same thread. Deleted or unknown authors do not create independent signals.
Strategy detection
Rules recognize CSPs, covered calls, short puts/calls, wheels, credit spreads, iron condors and butterflies, short strangles and straddles, jade lizards, PMCC call-selling structures, and other explicit net-credit trades. One primary strategy represents each independent signal for percentages.
Trade confidence
HIGH means explicit structured syntax; MEDIUM means a clear sold option with incomplete details; LOW means vague or ambiguous. Only HIGH and MEDIUM appear as concrete trades. Intent, event, and position state are separate dimensions. Unknown contract fields stay null.
Sentiment
Ticker-specific author reasoning is classified as Bullish, Slightly Bullish, Neutral, Slightly Bearish, Bearish, Mixed, or Unknown. A bare option sale does not establish sentiment. Repeated statements are deduplicated; each author and each thread has at most one total vote. At least two authors, two threads, and 50% known-evidence coverage are required. Ambiguous or insufficient reasoning remains Unknown.
Momentum
Current independent signals are compared only with the immediately previous completed weekly window. New Top 20 takes precedence, then Rising, Falling, and Stable. Percentage change is null when the previous count is zero.
Historical baselines
The default baseline is the trailing median from up to 12 prior completed weeks, excluding the current week. Missing or failed weeks are not converted into zero activity. Unusual activity requires at least five signals and at least twice the baseline.
Limitations
Reddit listing limits, deleted content, inaccessible threads, API interruptions, sarcasm, shorthand, and ambiguous context can reduce coverage or classification certainty. Any unproven coverage gap marks the report PARTIAL and is shown prominently.
